David frees Keilah |
David leaves Keilah |
David spares Saul |
David and his army slay the Philistines at the
city of Keilah. Details show: 1
-first example of detailing on a period saddle. 2 -three
great views of the Maciejowski Helm.
3 -a dagger
with a floral pommel and down-turned crossguard. 4
-single-hand sword with an unusually shaped
pommel with a triangular engraving and a flared crossguard.
5 -single-hand
sword with round pommel and flared crossguard.
6 -single-hand
sword with round pommel which has an off-center disc and a flared
crossguard. 7 -single-hand
sword with a classic cruciform-style hilt and
leather-wrapped grip. 8 -clear
view of a Norman nasal-helm.
9 -round battle
shield called a buckler/roundel/rondel.
10 -clear view of the attachment of a
scabbard to a sword-belt.
11 -Not pointing out any particular
weapon, armour or garb; rather, the focal point here is the nature of
medieval martial arts and battle: the knight on the right (wearing the
Norman nasal-helm) has quite probably lost his weaponry and is grappling
with the knight on the left (wearing the Maciejowski Helm) in a probable
attempt to wrestle the latter from his horse.
Wrestling was as much a part of medieval swordsmanship as was the wielding
of the sword itself. Unfortunately, the former knight receives a
presumably fatal dagger wound to the temple in the process.
12 -Again, not pointing out any weapon,
armour or garb; the focal point here is the incredibly gruesome
nature of battle on the medieval
battlefield...On the left and right can be seen a decapitated head (still
wearing the Norman nasal-helm); on both the left and right are severed
arms (demonstrating that a powerful and sharp blow from a sword can
slice through chainmaille defenses), as well as a fully-armoured head
split nearly in two (near-right side). |
David and his army leave Keilah to avoid
capture by Saul. Details show: 1
-fantastic artistic detail by the artisan of this scene, showing a
beautiful dappled stallion.
2 -superbly clear view of a saddle-stirrup
and the spurs on the ankle of the knight. 3
-a horse's bridle with ornate metal-work
hardware.
4 -heater shield
with heraldic markings.
5 -classic cruciform-style hilt of a
single-hand sword.
6 -good view of the construction of a
period saddle shows the high, curved saddle
designed to help keep a knight on his horse. |
David slices off a piece of Saul's cloak,
demonstrating that he could have slain him, but did not. Details show:
1 -a saddle-stirrup
and the spurs on the ankle of the knight, as
well as period footwear with an open top.
2 -a metal disc commonly
used to link the ends of reins together to prevent their falling from
reach. 3 a metal disc
